The Polish American Folk Dance Company is looking for new members!

We’re starting the new season, and invite former dancers and new
students interested in learning and performing Polish folk dances to join.

 When  Every Friday.  First class starts on September 16th, 2005
 5:00 - 7:00 PM      Children (age 4-13)
 7:00 - 8:00 PM      Beginners (age 13+)
 8:15 PM               Experienced and dance company members
 What to wear  Sweatpants/shorts/skirt and ballet/jazz shoes

No experience necessary! Classes taught in English/Polish.

Leonardo Iván Dominguez, Dominican merengue and bachata
 

Ivory Coast native and master dancer Mamadou Dahoué shares West African dance traditions. Director of the Polish American Folk Dance Company, Daniel Dziadura teaches Polish dances, including the krakowiak, the mazur, and the polka. Leonardo Iván Dominguez teaches merenge, bachata and other traditional Dominican dances and Don Coy and his wife Dot, American square dance instructors, feature master calling by Don working with the AL’e’MO Squares Dance Club.

Presented in cooperation with the Brooklyn Arts Council

Fiery mazurka performed to the music of Satnislaw Moniuszko’s classic opera.

Poland’s famous national dance performed by the children and the adults. The syncopated
rhythm is reminiscent of riders on horseback.

Krakowiak Polish Dancers
Trojak, meaning "three," is one of the best-known dances in Polish folklore. It’s a flirtatious dance between two girls trying to win the heart of one boy.                   Choreography: S. Bogdanski and J. Marek

Polonez and Biały Mazur
Podhale Folk Dance Company
Two of Poland’s finest national dances, the "Pożegnanie Ojczyzny" polonaise, followed by "Biały Mazur." Choreography: R. Schmidt. Composers: Ogiński and Osmański.

Polish American Folk Dance Company Children
Stately promenade performed by the nobility of Poland and later gaining popularity in the courts of Europe

Krakowiak Polish Dancers
Located in the western part of Poland, the region is known for its equestrian past. After a long day in the stables, the handsome men come out to court the young ladies. Choreography: J. Marek

The nobility adopted this elegant dance from a peasant dance, chodzony. Dancing to powerful music, the aristocrats turned this simple dance into a regal presentation. Choreography: S. Bogdanski

Polish American Folk Dance Company
The Green and White Forests of this region are home to ancient melodies and dances that are unique to this region, such as olender and powolniak.

The ancient capital of Poland, Krakow, is the setting for this rendition of the invasion of Poland by Tatars in the XII century. Choreography: R. Schmidt and L. Magdziarz. Musical arrangement: L. Jung
