The Polish American Folk Dance Company (PAFDC) will
host the 13th Festival of the Polish Folk Dance
Association of the Americas (PFDAA) at Columbia University from July
30 – August 3, 2003. Participating groups from Boston, Chicago, Detroit,
West Windsor Canada and New York, will showcase their talents and
artistry in a Gala Concert of Polish folk song and dance at New York
City’s famed Lincoln Center on Saturday, August 2nd at 8
p.m.
The PFDAA was founded in 1983 and is comprised of 33
folk dance ensembles from the United States and Canada. The
organization’s purpose
is to sponsor North American Polish
folk dance festivals and serve as a central source for information
regarding Polish folk music, dance, customs, and wardrobe. Member
groups are dispersed across Polish communities in the United States
and Canada. Previous festivals were held in San Francisco, Boston,
Minneapolis, Detroit, Montreal, Chicago and Los Angeles. The
Festival will also celebrate the PFDAA’s 20th Anniversary
of uniting performing Polish folk dance ensembles in North America.
Festival participants are
volunteers who take time from their professional and academic lives
to entertain audiences with Polish folk song and dance throughout
North America.
The Polish American Folk Dance
Company is proud to host the Festival this year in New York City,
the cultural capital of the world.
